Aim For The Heart: Hardboiled Heroes and Cozy Cats

Hardboiled Heroes and Cozy Cats

June 15 & 16, I'll be attending the Mystery Writers of America Hardboiled Heroes and Cozy Cats writers conference in Dallas. This will be the first writing conference I've ever attended, so I'm not sure what to expect.

If you have any advice, suggestions, or tips to make it an enjoyable experience, please feel free to share.

You'll lauv it! Especially the death by murder part of the conference. One newbie writer is sadly found murdered right after a pitch session. Of course the prime suspects are the agents and editors at the conference. Although, I myself, would tend to think another writer actually did the dirty deed. Anyway, the hip cat playing the detective solves the crime.

So just avoid the getting murdered part. And you'll do fine.

Good luck!

I've heard I'm actually pretty good at not getting murdered. I guess I'll find out.

Take pen and paper so you can write things down. Sounds like you have an agent so business cards may or may not be useful (never hurts to direct other writers to your website/blog early so that you can start building a fan base!) If you have cards, you might want to put labels on the back with the web addresses or print magazines where your short story work can be found...or your game stuff.

But honestly, you'll meet people and want to write down their web addresses and things like that. A small notebook comes in handy.

You'll have fun and you'll learn lots. :>)
