BIOGRAPHY
After a life of such extraordinary events as “being born,” “going to school,” and “graduating from college,” I went to work for Radio Shack, in their corporate headquarters, as a mainframe programmer. While cubicle work may sound like the stuff of dreams, it was, in fact, not a job noted for its creativity.
To cope, I decided to pick up a fantasy novel I’d started writing in college. I’d written a whopping thirty pages before a lack of interest caused me to set it aside. Using the Internet to research fiction writing, those first thirty pages jumped to a hundred. Two years and 90,000 words later, I’d managed to finish my first book. I sent out queries, amassing rejection letters by the dozens.
Meanwhile, I started another fantasy novel. Two more years and I had yet another book done. More rejection letters followed. Fast forward a few years. I picked up some freelance work, mostly writing game reviews for magazines and online sites, including Gamespy. Sold an article to Dragon magazine, sold a couple of RPG adventures to Necromancer Games, wrote more books, got more rejection letters. Landed a well-respected agent in January 2007.
Ten years after starting that first book, I’ve finished six novels and two RPG adventures. It no longer takes two years to write a book.
I currently live in Fort Worth with my husband of thirteen years and our two cats. The husband is a very talented web developer. The cats are just lazy.
